Bruce Wayne “Batman” Chubbs, 73 of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025. He was born on July 12, 1952 in Gary, Indiana to Clarence and Mildred (Overberg) Chubbs. Bruce, a man dedicated to his craft and his loved ones, made a nearly 50-year career as a welder at Bethlehem/Cleveland Cliffs, retiring on December 31, 2019. His commitment to his work was matched by his generosity of spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand and open his home to those in need, including his bonus children. While known by many for his kind and giving nature, those who knew Bruce best also recognized he was a man of few words with a dark sense of humor. He found enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life, including music, movies, fishing, bowling, and watching sports, particularly NASCAR. Bruce also had a passion for travel, appreciating the beauty of the outdoors, especially enjoying visits to Arizona for its desert sunsets, warm weather and White Sox Spring Training. Above all else, Bruce was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren.
On October 21, 1972, Bruce married Susan Sarkisian who survives along with their children, Satina (Matt) Nepsa, Alicia Chubbs, and Bruce “Bruzier” A. (Kay Lee) Chubbs; grandchildren, Miranda, Griffon, Zoe, Aspen, Enzo, and bonus granddaughter, Lillian; siblings, Dennis (Roberta) Chubbs and Barbara Ott; and many nieces, nephews, and bonus family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Craig Chubbs and Susan Pugh.
