Bruce William Wargo, 85 of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024. He was born April 15, 1938 in East Chicago, IN to Alexander and Edna (Ward) Wargo. Immediately following high school, Bruce joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on a destroyer off the Pacific Coast. After his service in the Navy, he attended and graduated from Indiana University. He began his career as a CPA at Ernst & Ernst in Chicago and then worked as a foundation trustee for 47 years with the John Anderson Foundation, serving as chairman from 2005-2022. Bruce was an avid golfer, reader, fan of Jeopardy, and a huge I.U., Bears, and Cubs fan.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of over 20 years, Evelyn Owen on October 30, 2019. He is survived by three children, Dennis Wargo, Bradley (Joni) Owen, and Cathy (Ken Gagne) Owen; and grandson, Bradley Owen, Jr. Bruce was also preceded in death by his parents and son, Douglas.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 PM. A private burial will follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park, Crown Point. Memorials may be made to Dunes Hospice or the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana. A heartfelt thank you from Bruce’s family for the love and care that was given by the staff at Residences of Coffee Creek and Dunes Hospice.
