Carol E. Gouwens, 88 of Valparaiso, passed away December 13, 2023. She was born March 26, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Henry J. and Hazel (Hill) Gouwens. A 1956 graduate of Valparaiso University, Carol taught Physical and Health Education at Thomas Junior High School for 34 years, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed watching, cheering for, and supporting professional, college, and local women’s sports programs.
Carol is survived by her cousins, Curt Ellis and Doug Dick, and many other cousins throughout Northwest Indiana. She was also preceded in death by her cousins, Patricia Ellis, and dear friends, Arlene Walsh and Katherine Jayme.
A memorial gathering will be held January 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Valparaiso Community Schools Girls High School Sports Programs, 3801 N. Campell St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
