Charlotte E. Rau, 93, of Valparaiso passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023. She was born October 12, 1929, in Valparaiso to Edward & Agatha (Heimberg) Klemz and graduated from Valparaiso High School. Charlotte was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and made her career as a Librarian for nearly 25 years with the Valparaiso Public Library. It should come as no surprise that Charlotte was a voracious reader, and that her large vegetable and flower garden was kept meticulously each year. Her intrepid personality helped to carry her through the unexpected challenges in her life with grace and confidence.
On June 18, 1948, she married Walter Rau who preceded her in death in 1976. Survivors include their children; Mark (Rita) Rau of Golden, CO, Dan (Jamie) Rau of Valparaiso, Jenni (Jim) Schoneman of Merrill, WI, ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Delores List, Dave Klemz & Roger Klemz.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 9th from 3 – 5 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with memorial service beginning at 5:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
