Dale “D.J.” Louis Lindstrom Jr., 52 of Valparaiso, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. He was born on September 5, 1971 in Hammond, IN to Dale Louis and Candace (Lamb) Lindstrom. A graduate from Portage High School, he made his career working in the kitchen at Applebee’s for over 7 years before retiring. He was a part of the Center for Possibilities and enjoyed his time with Special Olympics bowling, creating a loving community with friends who became his family. If you knew D.J., you knew just how much he loved to dress up to the nines, go out to eat, and just how big of an Elvis fan he was. Besides his love and talent for bowling, he also enjoyed playing corn toss and bocce. D.J. had a big hug and bright smile for everyone along with his signature and enthusiastic “I love you.”
He is survived by his mother, Candace Lindstrom; brother, Michael Lindstrom; nephew, Andrew Lindstrom; and beloved Chihuahua, Sadie. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Louis Lindstrom; brother, Andrew “Fuzzy” Lindstrom; and grandfather, “Gampa” Les, who he adored.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 10:00 – noon at Moeller Funeral Home, with a service beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Porter County Special Olympics.

I worked with Dale in High school in his special needs classes. He was my first student to work with the first year they had the class in high school. Dale I were very close for awhile but lost touch. He was so amazing and happy. He is the reason I went into working with special needs adults for a few years at Innovations in learning. D.J. was such a bright light. I met D.J. many years ago at the Elvis Fantasy Fest in Portage. We were always greeted with a big Teddy Bear hug. I loved watching his enthusiasm he had for Elvis music and the entertainers at the Fest. He was actually the "Star" of the show. He will be missed but never forgotten. The Elvis song "I'll Remember You" Lyrics are so fitting. Love and prayers for comfort to Candy, Mike, family and friends.
