Daro D. Taber, 87, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, November 25, 22025. He was born August 5, 1938, to Herbert M. & Margaret J. (Strong) Taber. Daro began his career farming with his father in the Boone Grove area, served proudly with the Indiana Army National Guard, walked a beat as a Valparaiso Police officer, and worked with the E,J & E Railroad. When Bethlehem Steel came to Porter County, Daro was one of the first hires helping lay down the literal groundwork of their Burns Harbor works. He continued with them for over 30 years becoming a Foreman in the Coke Ovens operation. During his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and camping with his family particularly at Kentucky Lake, in Minnesota and in Tennessee. The variety of fish didn’t seem to matter near as much as being with the people he cherished.
On July 7, 1956, he married Sondra Lee Paulsen who survives along with their children: Valerie (Thomas) Hunt of Valparaiso, Phillip Taber of Valparaiso & Cynthia (Jeffery) McCree of Knoxville, Tennessee, brothers; Lyle (Joanne) Taber of Wanatah & Harry (Kim) Taber of Tennessee, and numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Amber Dawn Taber in 2001, and his son-in-law, David Dominick in 2020.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 4th from 3 – 5 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso.
