Deborah Kay Cristea, 73 of Kouts, passed away Saturday, March 7. 2026. She was born on May 12, 1952 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas J. and Loretta (Mullins) Sutherland. A graduate of Portage High School, Debi worked out of her home as a licensed nail technician. Working at home gave her the opportunity and time for her love of crafting, rug hooking, and making her amazing meals for family and friends. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
On November 16, 1973, Debi married Ronald Cristea who survives along with their son, Jacob (Michaellyn Greyeyes) Cristea; former daughter-in-law, Jennifer Cristea; grandchildren, Madison, Ty, and Micah; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Steven and Timothy Sutherland.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Kosanke Funeral Home 309 S. Main St., Kouts, with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 PM and burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sunshine Community Center.

We have so many fond memories of spending time with her in Indiana and at the family reunions.
