Surrounded by his loving family, Dennis R. Fagan passed away on July 13, 2025. Dennis was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jerrett Fagan on December 3, 1946 in Alton, Illinois and graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1964.
A devoted husband and father, Dennis received his BS. Ed from Southern Illinois University in 1968. He later earned a Master’s in School Psychology from the University of Illinois, a Master’s in Human Resources from Loyola University, and a Specialist Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. His 37-year education career was spent in Illinois, Saudi Arabia and Indiana. Following retirement from education, Dennis served as an ombudsman for NW Indiana Community Action for 9 years.
A lover of travel, reading, skiing and cycling, Dennis most enjoyed time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Harriet; daughters, Molly Olson and Nell Mick; granddaughter, Mia Olson; sons-in-law, Paul Olson and William Mick; sisters, Mary Ann Alderson and Betty Lou Schreiber; brother, Terry Fagan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and stepmother, Naomi Funke Fagan, he was preceded in death by brother, Jerrett Fagan, Jr. and one nephew. Dennis was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard and member of Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis and the First United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 9, 2025 at Valparaiso First United Methodist Church 103 N. Franklin St., Valparaiso, with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
