Diana L. Turnipseed, age 71 of Chesterton, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 25, 2025. She was born on November 17, 1953, in Gary, Indiana to the late Theresa (Davalos) Bowman and Alfred Armenta. A lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana, Diana graduated from Wirt High School in 1972. She met the love of her life, David Turnipseed, while standing up in a friend’s wedding in Chesterton in 1973. One dance together and they knew! They were married on May 17, 1975. Shortly after, they built their home and first car wash in Chesterton.
In addition to proudly raising her two daughters, Nicole and Kimberly, to become confident and resilient women, Diana managed the finances of the three car washes and a masonry business that she and her husband, David, built together. She had an infectious laugh and loved spending time with her friends and family. Diana was a devoted grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her four grandchildren. Diana’s love and encouragement were constants in her family’s lives. Throughout her life, Diana had a deep love for dogs. In her youth, she adopted abandoned dogs, and later raised golden retriever puppies, and had many as pets; her heart was always with them.
Diana is survived by her husband, David W. Turnipseed; daughters: Nicole (Michael) Durkin, Kimberly (John) Tancos; grandchildren: Isabel and Michael Durkin, Easton and Vincent Tancos; brother, Steven Armenta; and stepfather, James Bowman. Diana will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alfred “Bushels” Armenta; her beloved Aunt Louise “Isha” Perez; and her many loyal dogs.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. The funeral service will begin on Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Charlotte Kroft officiating, and additional visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Entombment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Giant Paws, in honor of her love for dogs.
