Dolores Grace May, 80, of Wanatah, IN, formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Friday, December 12, 2025, in Valparaiso, IN. She was born October 19, 1945, in Three Rivers, MI. Dolores was the eighth of eleven children born to Michael & Evelyn (Malinski) May.
Dolores was a memorable character who was always up for an adventure. She was always willing to lend a hand to help anyone in need, sometimes whether that person wanted help or not. Her heart was in the right place and she loved fiercely. She got much enjoyment from road trips, DIY projects from home carpentry and gardening to car repair, rescuing animals, rescuing interesting furniture and decor, and researching family history. She also taught many family members how to drive.
Survivors include her siblings: Lorraine Ruetsche, Theresa May, Edward (Mari Anne) May, Charles (Maureen) May, and Margaret (James) Brzozkiewicz as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mary Ann (May) Leiper and Elizabeth "Betty" May, her brothers Donald, Joseph, Robert, and Richard May, her brothers-in-law John Leiper and Charles Ruetsche, and her sister-in-law Dorothy (Radewagen) May.
Private burial and blessing will be announced at a later date to be held at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Cemetery, Niles, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice
