Donald Edward Garetto, 80, of Wanatah passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Willows Health care Center in Valparaiso. He was born August 11, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to Michael & Margaret (Lewis) Garetto and attended Fenger High School. Don made his career as a welder with Verson All Steel Products, body man with Tony’s Body Shop, and finally as a customer service emissary with Dominick’s in Chicago. He could be found mesmerized by NASCAR races nearly every Sunday, watching WW II documentaries, traveling to train yards and museums, or visiting classic car shows.
Survivors include his children; Donna Garetto (Marlo Panega), Danny (Chris) Garetto, David (Steve) Garetto-Barnett, Dawn (Rick) Sparger, Deanna (Allen) Gorrell, brother, Michael (Char) Garetto, grandchildren; Jennifer, Dana, Danny Jr., Kylee, Blake, Adrienne, Alex, Justin, George & Crystal and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Garetto in 2008, daughter, Delphyne Rae Garetto in 2022, sisters, Rosemary Post & Diane Cook, and his parents.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, from 4 – 6 pm at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St. with memorial service beginning at 6:00 pm.
