Doris Jean Romine, 87 of Pine River, MN, formerly of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023. She was born June 19, 1936, in Salt Lick, KY to John Eber Hunt and Ada Spencer (Conn) Hunt. Doris made her career as a self-employed furniture upholsterer at Doris’ Upholstery Shop for over 40 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW Auxiliary, both in Valparaiso. Doris enjoyed bowling, sewing, and doing crafts in her free time. She will be remembered as a caring and fun-loving woman, who was also a jokester and always loved making people laugh. Doris loved her family and friends more than anything. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In July of 1984, Doris married Charles Romine, who preceded her in death in 1994. She is survived by her children: Ravinia (Jim) Lucas of Pine River, MN, Harold (Star) Ruwersma of Valparaiso, IN, Roger (Mary) Ruwersma of Union Mills, IN, Wendell (Shelly) Ruwersma of Kouts, IN, and Adah Botta of Pine River, MN; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; siblings: Fairley Hunt, Martha Crump, Brenda Horsley, Kenneth Hunt, and Rhonda Knox; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 8 brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Society – Home Health & Hospice of Nisswa, MN or the Alzheimer’s Association.
