Esther Marie Gordon, 96 of Wanatah, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She was born on March 5, 1927 in Dwight, IL to Oral and Clara (Miller) Devereaux and graduated from Union Mills High School. As a farmer’s wife and homemaker, Esther took pride in her devotion to her family. She enjoyed baking, eating ice cream, card game nights, and playing games with her grandkids. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
On December 28, 1946, Esther married Howard Gordon who preceded her in death in 2008. Survivors include children, Sandra (Don) Welliver and LaVonne (Robert) Dodson; daughter-in-law, Kim Gordon; grandchildren: Jennifer (Joe) Castlelana, Erik (Jennifer) Welliver, Steven (Anna) Dodson, Leslie (Josh) Hensley, Joshua Gordon, Mikaela (Nick) VanWieren, and Lacey Gordon; great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Ryan Castlelana, Marie Welliver, Connor and Maggie Hensley, and Brantley VanWieren. She was preceded in death by son, David; daughter, Wanda; and siblings: Doris, Margaret, and Orval.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Wanatah Funeral Chapel with a service beginning at 5:00 PM with Pastor Denny Smith officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Dunes Hospice or Life Care Center of Valparaiso.
