Gail Suzanne Rampke, 71, of Hebron, Indiana passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024. She was born January 24, 1953, in Hammond, Indiana to John & Joyce (Luellen) Homer, graduated from Hebron High School in 1971. A bit later in life Gail received a B.S. in Computer Science from Ivy Tech, then a B.A. in Education from Purdue Calumet to begin her second career.  Gail found her calling as a teacher and fulfilled a very special niche within the education profession as a conscientious substitute teacher throughout area school systems. She was a consummate professional in church and secular circles and was often specifically requested for her expertise.  When computer science came into its own Gail hit the ground running and passionately shared her knowledge with eager students on the cusp of a new era. Despite her technical side, her leisure pursuits seemed to harken back to a bygone era; riding & jumping horses English style, endurance trail riding scores of miles in a day, camping and bicycle riding trails with Dennis, the love of nearly every type of music, but especially Irish folk music, and did we mention her affinity for the bagpipes? If not for an unusual childhood accident that affected her aural canal, Gail may have found a way to incorporate the bagpipes into her career. Her longtime membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hebron, where she had served as choir director for 20 years, not only provided a foundation for her faith but provided a cornerstone for many lasting friendships.
On November 13, 1971, she married the love of her life, Dennis Rampke who survives along with her sister, Amy Homer of Lombard, Illinois, sisters-in-law; Pamela Hendrix of North Carolina & Leann (James) Gorby of Kouts, IN, and many loving nieces, nephews & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Homer & Joyce Gorringe.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 7th from 9 – 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 687 W. 650 S., Hebron, IN 46341, with funeral service beginning at 11:00 am, Bishop Scott Shepherd officiating with burial to follow at Cornell Cemetery, Hebron, IN.
