Glenda Lynn Hackett, 84 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 30, 1939, in Caruthersville, Missouri to the late John Lee Hooker and Emma Jane (Ethridge) Sampson. Lynn started her career as a waitress in Portage for many years, before becoming a cake designer at the Kmart Bakery, and continuing to design cakes on her own. She was a very independent woman, who loved to take care of others. Lynn took care of her mother and sisters for many years when they were sick. She enjoyed playing dice with her sisters, especially the game 10,000. Lynn loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.
On November 2, 1984, in Hawaii, Lynn married John Hackett Jr., who preceded her in death in 2014. She is survived by her children: Delores Jo (Billy) Harris of Poplar Bluff, MO, Butch Kerr of Sikeston, MO, Charles (Amber) Johnson of Aurora, CO, and William (Diane) McNorton of Portage, IN; siblings: Larry (Corrine) Hooker of Gary, IN and Sharon (Stephen) Goodchild of FL; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Homan, 7 sisters, and 1 brother.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN.
