Gustavo Cornejo, 79 of LaPorte, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022. He was born November 14, 1942 in Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico to Reynaldo and Elena (Ramos) Cornejo. Gustavo made his career as a stockman at Worthington Steel in Burns Harbor. He was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Valparaiso, and enjoyed doing puzzles, and spending time with his beloved family. Gustavo will be remembered as a great man with a kind heart, who always put his family first. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

On June 8, 1968 in Mexico City, Mexico, Gustavo married Guadalupe Reyes, who preceded him in death in 2017. He is survived by their children: Jose (Violet) Cornejo of Chicago, IL, Carlos (Leticia) Cornejo of Valparaiso, Ana (Chuck McIlroy) Cornejo of LaPorte, Francisco (Heather) Cornejo of Valparaiso; and grandchildren: Matthew, Olivia, Charles, Mark, Kylee, Nadya, Megan, Brianna, Alyssa, Owen, Colton, and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Arturo, Romaldo, and Luis; and sister, Concepcion.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1955 Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso, with a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. The Cornejo family asks you to wear a mask during your time with them at church. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Gustavo’s name to the National Kidney Foundation.
