James A. Longmore, 87, of Valparaiso passed away Monday, May 12, 2025. He was born in Valparaiso on September 23, 1937 to Cecil & Pauline (Knapp) Longmore. Jim was a 1955 graduate from Horace Mann High School. He made his career for nearly 40 years as a Millwright with U.S. Steel Garyworks. Jim was an independent and pragmatic soul with a charismatic charm that he could engage at will. His catchphrase: “It is what it is”, seemed to capture his acceptance of life’s many adventures which he embraced for what they were.
In 1955, He married Jeanne Ricardo with whom he had two daughters who survive: Sharon (Robert) McEwen of Portage & Lori Longmore of Louisville, Ohio, son-in-law, Sean Warmoth of Indianapolis, step-daughter, Carol (Mike) Young, brother, Nolan “Butch” (Sandy) Longmore of Montrose, CO, grandchildren: Shannon, Rachel & Robert, great grandson, Bryce, his longtime tenant, friend and caregiver, Steven Pado, numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Jeanne, son, David Longmore, daughter, Linda Warmoth, and brothers, Larry & Richard Longmore.
The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at VNA Hospice NWI. Their expertise, kindness, and unwavering commitment to Jim’s comfort and wishes in the 20 months he was under their care were truly remarkable. Nurse Amy held a special place in his heart as well as ours. We are forever grateful.
A memorial celebration of James’ life will be held at a later date.

Family & friends of Jim, Very sad to learn of Jim’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I became part of the Longmore gang and went pheasant hunting with Jim-every year for 25+ years in the ‘60’s-‘70’s-and ‘80’s. Lots of great memories! Rest in peace Jim. -Joe Dietz
