James Bernard Shreves III, 52 of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025. He was born July 6, 1973, in Norwich, Connecticut, to the late James Shreves II and MaryAnn (Ladyga) Shreves. Jim graduated in 1991 from South Central High School in Union Mills, Indiana. He began his career as a Corrections Officer with the Westville Correctional Facility, and retired as a Truck Driver. Jim was a devoted father to his three beloved children. He was very active in Kankakee Valley Athletics, where he served on the board and coached his kids in their various sports. Jim also enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, and cheering for the New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers. Jim looked forward to spending time with his family, visiting with friends, and making daily phone calls to family members to catch up on their lives. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sarcastic comments, and good sense of humor. Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his children: Hannah (Ruben) Barajas of Crown Point, Morgan Shreves of Wanatah, and Jackson Shreves of Hanna; grandchildren: Caroline and Nico; mother of his children: Gabrielle (Conley) Krueger of Hanna; siblings: Stacey Shreves, Erin (Lin) Viou, Josh (Jenn) Shreves, Jason (Jen) Shreves, and Adam (Melody) Shreves; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be announced at a later date.
