James Edward Companik, Sr., 86 of Valparaiso, formerly of Griffith, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024. He was born March 13, 1938, in Hammond, IN, to the late Joseph and Mary (Suhy) Companik. James proudly served in the United States Army Reserves, before he made his career in sheet metal and steel fabricating as Vice President of Vidimos, Inc. for many years. He was a lifelong Catholic/Lutheran who had strong faith in the Lord. James was a talented woodworker, skilled fisherman, and expert in tinkering. He was famously referred to as “the coolest dad” by his children’s friends. James will be remembered for his laid back personality, kind spirit, generous nature, and the love he extended to everyone he met. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who will be dearly missed.
On February 9, 1964, he married Adrienne Suzanne Companik, who preceded him in death in 2021. He is survived by their children: James Companik II of Algonquin, IL, Kimberly (Sean) Warner of Bartlett, IL, Adrienne (Mark) Smith of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren: Clark, Connor, Ever, and Vaughn. He was preceded in death by brothers: Robert and Richard Companik.
A committal service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Graceland Cemetery Mausoleum, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
