James Edward Doppler, 75, of Valparaiso, passed away on May 9, 2025. He was born in Hammond, Indiana, and was a proud graduate of Hammond Tech High School and Purdue University Calumet.
Jim built a respected career in the construction industry, contributing to major industrial and community projects across the Midwest. His work was marked by dedication, skill, and integrity.
A devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Jim’s faith shaped his life and values. He was the beloved son of George and Bernice Doppler. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Ann Fultman, and together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, raising a strong, close-knit family. He was also a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and a proud Eagle Scout.
Jim was known for his quick wit, generous heart, and deep love for his country. He was a drummer in a regional band, a passionate patriot, and a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears—especially proud of their 1985 Super Bowl win.
Family road trips, holiday traditions, and storytelling were among his greatest joys. Christmases with Jim were full of laughter, classic movie quotes, and his cherished tradition of reading The Night Before Christmas to his children and grandchildren.
Jim took great pride in his community, where he gave back through local service and found true friendship in his neighbors.
He is survived by his loving family, including his children and grandchildren, siblings, and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law; his beloved wife, Cheryl; and other loved ones.
A funeral Mass will be held on June 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, with entombment at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Valparaiso. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or AmVets, in honor of Jim’s deep respect for those who served.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to the many friends, neighbors, and kind individuals—near and far—who brought Jim joy and support throughout his life.
