James William Totzke, 68 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was born May 26, 1954, in Mount Clemens, Michigan to the late Melvin and Norma (Hart) Totzke. Jim graduated from the Valparaiso Technical Institute and made his career as an Instrument Technician with Inland Steel for 44 years, retiring in 2020. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1010. Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife, golfing, and riding motorcycles. He was a gifted musician and played the rhythm guitar in several bands.
On July 2, 2001, in Las Vegas, Jim married the love of his life, and companion of 31 years, Dana Abel-Totzke, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Dylan Totzke; sisters: Jo Anne (Jim) Osterland and Lou Anne (Brian) Kaufman; father-in-law, Clayton Abel; mother-in-law, Linda (George) Paulisin; brother-in-law, Martin (Laura) Abel; and sister-in-law, Heather (Dana) Campbell. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jillian Totzke in 1985.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Sunshine Center, 170 South State Road 49, Valparaiso, IN 46383, or Lakeshore Paws, 4611 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
