Jeff Shotts, 82 of Wanatah, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Friday, December 13, 2024. "The Man, the Myth, the Legend" was born September 8, 1942 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Raymond and Ivy (Taylor) Shotts. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Jeff made his career as a millwright at Bethlehem Steel for 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 403 of Wanatah, where he was a past commander. “Legend” along with his wife, “Slick” served many friends and family at the Legion and the Silver Horseshoe over the years. He enjoyed traveling, horses, skiing, and was an avid Bears fan.
On September 7, 1993, Jeff married Penny “Slick” Werner who survives along with his children, Doug Shotts, Tanis (Michael) Fyock-Rushman, Jennifer (Brian) Stansbargar, and Mandy (Rich) Dodd; grandchildren, Merik, Alex, Sally, Ben, C.J., Danny, Dylan, and Kelsy; great grandchildren, Christopher, Gregory, Elizabeth, Beau, Ira, and Lincoln; siblings, Bob Shotts, Cindy (Richard) Marx, Dennis (Becky) Shotts, and Gina (Kelly) Burge; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Tony Fyock.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 2:00-6:00 PM at Wanatah Funeral Chapel 309 N. Main Street, Wanatah, with a Funeral Service beginning at 6:00 PM. Private cremation will follow at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 403 or Dunes Hospice.

I have many memories of working with Jeff at Burns Harbor Plant of Bethlehem Steell, all Of them good. His humor was most welcome when things were going bad during the turn. Penny and Family: Jeff was a classmate and friend from the class of 1961. The last time we met was our 55th Class Reunion in 2016 as he and others made fools of themselves being male cheerleaders which, of course, we had none 1961! Their performance was outstanding! Dearest Amiga, I'm sorry for the loss of your Jeff. He was a good, funny man and one of the staunchest Bears fans I have ever met! I enjoyed spending time with you guys back in the day and I remember many beers and many laughs shared. I will remember those good times and I hope you will too every time you begin to feel sad with missing your Jeff.
