Jeffery “Smitty” Smith, 65 of Hebron, IN, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was born May 23, 1958, in Valparaiso, IN, to the late James and Mildred (Osborne) Smith. Smitty attended Boone Grove High School, and made his career as a Drywaller. He enjoyed watching sports, and cheering for the Indiana Hoosiers, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Bears. Smitty will be remembered for his quick wit, agility on the basketball court, competitive spirit, and 5 Melton Family Horseshoe Tournament Championships. He was a proud dad and grandpa who will be dearly missed.
Jeffery is survived by his children: Cristina (Brian) Rayburn of Wanatah, Rebecca (John) Saylor of Westville, and Robert Smith of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Cole Laux, Haley Saylor, and Jack Saylor; sister, Kathy Smith; and former spouse, Karen Smith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Smith; sister, Kim Bostic; and sister-in-law, Beth Grenke.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main Street, Wanatah, with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 p.m.

So sorry to Crissy, Becky, Bobby, Kathy, Karen, and Jeff’s Grandchildren, and nephews and niece’s. He was a good Friend and Brother to me. He helped me with so many things, and I tried to be there to help him.
We were friends since 5th and 6th grade, we married sisters, and did a lot together. He will be greatly missed, I miss him already. I hope to see you on the other side, Smitty. -Ron Walters
