Jimmie Alan Lawson, 65 of Valparaiso, passed away as a result of a car accident on July 10, 2022. He was born January 1, 1957 in Gary, IN to John and Ruth (Emerson) Lawson.  Jimmie graduated from La Lumiere High School in 1975, where he was an All-American Wrestler. After high school, Jimmie studied Accounting at Valparaiso University. He proudly made his career as an Operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 for over 40 years, retiring in April 2022. He also ran his own equipment rental company, Lawson Rental and Sales, for 20 years. Jimmie was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing the game with his family and friends. He loved traveling, cheering for the Blackhawks, and spending time with his cherished grandsons. Jimmie was a self-proclaimed master of automotive and mechanical engineering. He had the cleverness and skill to create his own way of fixing anything, which he always did. Jimmie will be remembered as a faithful husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
On August 4, 1979 in South Bend, IN, Jimmie married Karen Kurapka, who survives, along with their children: Eric Lawson of Hawaii, Stephen (Sarah) Lawson of Germany, Katie (Sean) Guy of Valparaiso, IN, Sarah Lawson of Austin, TX, Alex Lawson of Valparaiso, IN; grandsons: Caelan and Finn Lawson and Gavin and Maverick Guy; his father, John (Irene) Lawson of Ogden Dunes, IN; siblings: Deborah (LeRoy) Huettner, Michele (Thomas) Walker, John Paul Lawson, Daniel (Danielle) Lawson; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Lawson.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
