Joe J. Allande Sr., 71 of Otis, IN, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 in Munster, IN. He was born on January 7, 1953 in Denver, CO to Joe C. and Estela F. (Hernandez) Allande and graduated from Calumet High School in Gary, IN. He worked at, co-owned, and eventually owned JRM Auto Repair in Gary and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Otis. You could say Joe was a “Joe”kster, always making people laugh. He was a lover of music including blues and country, walking his dog and best bud, Toby, and being active outdoors. Joe was a true motorhead and took great pride in his one of a kind ’79 Ranchero. Above all, he loved being “Papa Joe” to his six grandkids: Killian, Hunter, Elijah, Lucien, Torin, and Krishna. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving companion, Elizabeth Howard; children: Joe J. Allande Jr., Eddie (Yeonae) Ooms Jr., Jennifer (Alex) Gilger, and “little one” Harley (Brian) Corder; siblings: Linda Bayer, Jimmy (Anita) Allande, Steven (Shawn) Allande, and Ruthie Aranda; nieces and nephews: David, Christina, and “Uncle” Doug Bayer, Elizabeth Swacker, Trina Hendricks, Bill Swacker, Steven Jr., Matthew, and Caitlin Allande; Tia Betty Hernandez and his Texas family; beloved dog, Toby; and many other loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Estela; and sister, Elizabeth Swacker.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a service beginning at 6:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Giant Paw Prints or the National Kidney Foundation.
