John Anthony Simon, Jr., 65 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born March 9, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio to John and Patricia (Quigley) Simon, Sr. After high school, John proudly served in the United States Army from 1977-1989, where he was a Surveyor in the Field and Artillery Branch, served two tours in Germany, taught classes in Oklahoma, was stationed in Georgia, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Following his time in the service, John became an over the road truck driver with Roadway Express and the Teamsters Local 710 Union, before his retirement earlier this year. John was a dedicated and hardworking man, who in his free time, loved to watch his boys play sports and coach. Taking vacations and cheering for the Cincinnati Reds Baseball team brought John great joy. But nothing made him prouder than his family. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who always put his family first. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy lives on in the lives he touched while he was here.
On July 2, 1990 in Northern Kentucky, John married Danielle Covert, who survives, along with their sons: Nicholas (Danielle) Simon, Zachary Simon, Jacob Simon, and Jackson Simon, all of Valparaiso; grandson, Elliott Simon; sisters: Judy Burman and Cindy (Paul) Pennington; nephew, Matthew (Keisha) Pennington; sister-in-law, Jennifer Burke; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Debbie Simon, and brother-in-law, Bill Burman.
