John Ernest Molnar III, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 4th, 2026, at the age of 84. A lifelong resident of the region, John was born on July 20, 1941 in Gary, Indiana, to John and Helen (Gregor) Molnar. In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Felice (Sul). Their 63-year marriage was built on a foundation of love and friendship that served as the cornerstone of their family.
For 42 years, John worked as a lineman for NIPSCO. Whether braving northwest Indiana winters or the summer heat, he took immense pride in keeping the lights on for his community and cherished the deep brotherhood he found among his fellow linemen.
When he wasn’t on call, John was most at home on the water. He spent his summers bass fishing, where the water brought him his greatest peace. But his true joy was his family. John was a wonderful grandfather who truly loved every moment spent with his grandchildren. John was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, a constant, proud fixture in the seats and sidelines of every school, concert, and sporting event. He had a rare gift for making each family member feel uniquely special, offering his time and strength without hesitation.
Memories of camping, his love of sports, and his sense of humor are just a few other things his family will always remember. John left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Felice (Sul); his children, Suzanne (John) Seelander of Woodridge, IL, and Christopher (Kerri) Molnar of Valparaiso, IN; his seven grandchildren, Christen (Sebastian) Jaromin, Sean, Kevin, and Erik Seelander, Megan (Drew) Boetel, Madison, and Reese Molnar; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his wishes, no funeral or visitation will be held. May he find eternal peace on the calmest waters.
