John “Jack” Gant, 86 of Kouts, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023. He was born August 20, 1936, in Hobart, to John Gant and Evelyn (Johnson) St. Clair. Jack graduated from Wheeler High School and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Jack enjoyed the time he spent driving a truck with Gingerich Trucking, and was a self-employed contractor at Gant and Sons. He later made his career and retired as an Electrician with Local 531. Jack was a member of the Kouts Christian Church, American Legion Post 301, and the Kouts Volunteer Fire Department. He loved stock car racing, motorcycles, fishing, model trains, woodworking, and all things aviation. Jack was a “jack of all trades” with a good sense of humor.  He will be remembered as a loving family man and “Papa” who will be dearly missed.
On July 16, 1960, Jack married Ruth Ann Heath, who survives, along with their children: John (Lynette) Gant, Tom (Lori) Gant, and Susan Gant, all of Kouts; grandchildren: David (Julie) Gant, Jimi Volpp, Courtney (Travis) Janssen, Tim (Kelsey) Gant, Tanner (PJ) Patterson, and Drew Gant; great grandchildren: Tyler, Tinley, Lincoln, Maverick, and Iris; brother, Jim Gant; half-sister, Jill McCune; and half-brothers: Jerry, Jan, Billy, Earl “Buddy”, and Bobby Gant.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Joe Gant.
A private burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Kouts.
