John K. Armstrong, 70, of Demotte, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. He was born August 8, 1954, in Rensselaer, IN, to the late John and Sharon (Clark) Armstrong. John graduated from Kankakee Valley High School in 1972, and went on to a career as a Machinist. John began his career with Anderson Company in Valparaiso where he met his future wife, worked at various other companies, and later retired from Aero Metal in Valparaiso. John was excellent at his craft, took great pride in his work, and was an A-Rated Machinist who could make a CNC machine do things that others didn’t know were possible. Outside of work, John enjoyed riding his motorcycle, racing offroad motorcycles, scuba diving, hunting, gardening, spending time outdoors, and cooking, all interests he passed on to his wife, son, and grandchildren. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, Demotte Trail Riders Club, and the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. John will be remembered for his quick wit and dry humor. He will be dearly missed.
On November 24, 1978, John married Mary Ann (nee German), who survives, along with son, Michael Kleckner; grandchildren: Brooke, Nick, and Katlyn Kleckner; and brothers: Robin (Renee) Armstrong, and Jeff Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, William Daryl Armstrong.
A private family celebration of John’s life will take place at a later date. He will be buried at sea in the Cayman Islands. Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the VNA of NWI.
