With the heaviest of hearts our family recognizes the passing of Jonathon Michael Carr – husband, father, son, brother, coach and friend to so many.
Jon was born December 5, 1985 in Joliet, IL where he was raised by his parents, Mike and Marliou Carr. He idolized his older brother, Andrew and doted on his little sister, Mallory. Jon was a stellar high school football player at Minooka Community High School. He went on the play at the University of Chicago, where he found his best friend and love of his life, Brittany. After graduating, he accepted a position at Fannie Mae where he worked for the last 17 years. Jon and Brittany had one son together, Beckett, who was all of Jon’s heart. Jon and Brittany always wanted to have a big family, so in 2024, the Carrs’ hosted a foreign exchanged student. Jon was so proud to also be a dad to Federico Adami.
To know Jon was to know he loved sports and coaching in the community. There was nothing that gave him greater joy than being part of youth sports with his son. His pride was to watch his son, but his passion was coaching. If he wasn’t coaching, he was at every practice willing to jump in at anytime to help. Connecting with fellow coaches and young athletes truly defined that passion. He loved the Valparaiso Pop Warner organization, the Valparaiso Americans baseball program, and, most recently, the NWI Hustle basketball program.
Nothing meant more to Jon than family. Growing up in a large, passionate and supportive family, he shared those qualities with everyone he ever met or coached. His love for his family, in particular, Brittany and Beckett, was unmatched.
Jon leaves behind his greatest loves, Brittany and Beckett. Their marriage reflected the values they held most dear – kindness, loyalty, generosity, and unconditional love. He said his greatest honor was being a dad and best friend to Beckett.
Jon is also survived by his parents, Mike & Marilou Carr; grandmother Phyllis Carr; second parents Terry and Kelly Bunch; sisters Mallory Carr, Brianna (Ben) Bunch Hogan, Breally Bunch; nephews Brennan and Bryan; loving dogs Chi and Indy; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends. His love and devotion to all his family and friends will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his brother Andrew Carr, aunt Colleen McEvilly Kapsch, cousins Niko Rodriguez and Ryan Reed, and grandparents, Jim and Anne McEvilly, Gerald Carr, and Mam Hammer.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, from 2:00-6:00 pm at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd Valparaiso, with a Celebration of Life Ceremony beginning at 6:00 pm. At 7:00 pm there will be a gathering at the American Legion 4 Monroe Street, Valparaiso. All are welcome to come and enjoy pizza. Please bring your favorite Jon story to share. There will be a mass at St. Mary’s Church in Minooka, IL, 303 W St Mary’s St, on Saturday, January 10th 2026 at 12:00 pm, with a lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers please donate to help establish a scholarship fund for Beckett at this Go Fund Me Page. Per Jon’s wishes, scholarships will be established in his name for Valpo Pop Warner and the Valparaiso Americans.

Dear John, you have left an enormous emptiness in our hearts. During these ten months, you were not only a wonderful person who took care of our son and our nephew, but a truly special presence—genuine, loving, and deeply devoted. We will always carry with us your smile, your kindness, and all the love you gave so generously. We are profoundly close to your entire family, to your wife, to Brittany, to little Beckett, and to everyone who loved you. We share your pain and hold you close in our hearts, with immense affection. Thank you for everything you were. You will never be forgotten. -Marco, Angelo e Elena Afami
I am sooo very sorry for your loss. Jon was a constant in my daughter's life in Minooka growing up. Jon took her to their first Homecoming Dance. He was such a wonderful person. My heart breaks for all of you!! May God's arms wrap around you and give you strength. -Jana Paez(Luebchow)
Jon/Jonathon/Jonnay/Big Jon, Love you bro. I'll never forget how good of a friend you were to me. I'll never forget how you always had my back. Remember when I had a really rough night, one night, at my staff Christmas party at Ireland's Four Courts? And I was in such bad shape the next day, no way could I make it into work? And you stayed home from work that day, too, and we chilled on the roof of your apartment building in D.C., and you listened to me, and consoled me, and helped me to calm down and chill out and feel better. I'll never forget that, Jonnay. You were such an amazing guy. Your obituary tells about how your and Brittany's marriage reflected the values you two hold most dear: kindness, loyalty, generosity, and unconditional love. Jonnay, you embodied those values, every single day. Miss you. Love, -Todd Kopecky
