Joseph A. Markovich, 74 of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023. He was born September 13, 1948, in East Chicago, IN to Charles and Wilma (Zajac) Markovich. Joe graduated from Bishop Noll High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue Calumet. Joe held several jobs as a Mechanical Engineer and worked with his father in car repair. A change in career led him to obtain a certificate in Computer Information Systems and later become the Lead Tech at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, which inspired Joe’s son to follow his footsteps in the same field. Joe was a lifelong Catholic, who enjoyed home repair and woodworking. He was active with the US Gen Web project and maintained the genealogical information for several states. Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and contagious laugh. He was meticulous in his organization and attention to detail. Joe will be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father who will be dearly missed.
On April 15, 1978, Joseph married Remedios Perez, who survives, along with their son, Joseph C. (Sean Hay) Markovich of Valparaiso, as well as numerous cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepmother, Stella (nee Wukich) Markovich.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Joe’s name to Dunes Hospice.
