Joseph William Hartl, 62 of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022. He was born December 19, 1959 in Gary, IN to Ralph and Janet (Roberts) Hartl. Joe received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, and made his career as a Mechanical Engineer with Bethlehem Steel, ArcelorMittal, and Cleveland-Cliffs. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, astronomy, and rescue dogs. Joe will be remembered as a hard-working man with big opinions. He will be missed by his friends and co-workers.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Janet Hartl; sister, Marsha Triola; and brother-in-law, Vincent Triola.
Per Joe’s wishes, following cremation, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to a pet rescue of the donor’s choice.
