Josephine “Josie” Ann Rutkin of Valparaiso passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John and Mary (Retorik) Hirchak. She graduated from Froebel High School and Gary School of Business before making her career as a secretary for the Chief Chemist at U.S. Steel and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 207. Josie was loved and lived a blessed life. Her presence will be missed every day.

Survivors include daughter and caregiver, Patricia (John) Tompi; daughter, Jean (Marty) Chelich; grandchildren: Alexandra (Courtney) Tompi-Bell, Amanda Tompi, Addison Tompi, Matthew Chelich, Michael Chelich, Julie Chelich, and Carrie Chelich; special great-granddaughter who was near and dear to her heart, Amelia Ballor; and very special and dear to her heart, Ignarski and Reardon families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Al” Rutkin; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Per Josie’s wishes, a private service will be held.
