Juan Ramon “Nito” Nieves Roman, 80 of Westville, IN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026. He was born September 11, 1945, in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico to the late Juan Nieves and Maria (Rodriguez) Nieves. Nito proudly served in the United States Army before his career as a Die Mounter in Elk Grove Village, IL for 35 years. Nito was a talented finishing carpenter who could build anything, and especially loved building with his sons. He was a devoted family man who cherished time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. Nito also enjoyed attending church at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wanatah. He will be remembered as a passionate and strong-willed man, who will be dearly missed.
On October 11, 1969, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Chicago, IL, Nito married the love of his life, Leyla Justiniano, who survives, along with their sons: Juan (Kim) Nieves, and Jeremiah Thomas Nieves, all of Westville; grandchildren: Nicholas Nieves, Juan Roman Nieves III, Serena Carol Nieves, Liam Timothy Nieves, Micah Benjamin Nieves, Maya Nieves, and Zoe Nieves.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. The funeral service will begin on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 15496 S. 900 W., Wanatah, Rev. Joel S. Zipay officiating, with burial to follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
