Judith R. (nee Dicksen) Mergl, 87 of Kouts, passed away Monday, March 23, 2026. She was born December 18, 1938 in Valparaiso, Indiana to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Berg) Dicksen. Judie graduated from Kouts High School and worked for 12 years at Carol’s Hallmark in Valparaiso. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kouts and the Kouts Starlighters. Judie found enjoyment in painting and exercising, and she was a member of Curves and the Franciscan Health and Fitness Center in Wheatfield.
On September 29, 1956 in Valparaiso, Judie married James Mergl who survives along with their children, Pam (Chuck) Yount of Phoenix, AZ, Jim Mergl of Arlington Heights, IL, and Carol (Mike) Nagel of Skokie, IL; daughter-in-law, Gill Mergl; grandchildren, Laura, Lindsey (Nick), Christian, and Ben; and great grandchildren, Lily and Teddy. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Patricia and sister, Ruth Dicksen-Blake.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 3:00-6:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service at the funeral home on Friday, March 27th at 11:00 AM and entombment to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Kouts.
