Karen Lee Curtis, 72, of Valparaiso passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 4, 2024. She was born May 26, 1951, in LaPorte to Donald & Beverly (Deardurff) Williamson, graduated from LaPorte High School, and received a B.S. in Medical Technology from Ball State University. Her 40-plus year career as a Medical Technologist and Laboratory Supervisor with Cancer Health Associates defined Karen professionally. Outside of work Karen was proud to have earned the distinction as a Master Gardener whose quiet and private personality traits also served her well in her pursuit of birding. She would probably have been a bit embarrassed for us to mention the strength and skill she was able to exhibit during Pilates sessions. Being a mom was always her first and foremost passion which included not only her daughters, but the “best dog ever”, Koko.
On November 6, 1976, she married Steven Curtis who survives along with their daughters; Carrie Curtis (Eric Yockey) of Indianapolis & Meagan Hattori (Hideyo) of Hawaii, sisters; Debbie Lane, Vicky Clark (Dave), Chris Uribe & Penny Williamson, grandsons, Raiden & Colton Hattori, and granddogs, Gracie & Hazel.
A private committal ceremony will be held Tuesday, April 9th, at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, Valparaiso. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of NWI, https://vnanwi.org/give.php
