Kathleen Elaine “KK” Kaniuk, 75 of Valparaiso, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday July 23, 2025. She was born on November 28, 1949 in Bridgeview, IL, to Phil and Marie (Guenther) Gleason. Kathleen retired 13 years ago from the Lake County Clerks Office. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso and an associate of the Elks Lodge 500 of Valparaiso. Kathleen enjoyed shopping, knitting, and the occasional trip to play the slot machines. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed and remembered by all who loved her.
On September 30, 1972 at Our Lady of Knock Catholic Church in Calumet City, IL, Kathleen married Greg Kaniuk who survives along with their children, Greg (Leslie) Kaniuk, Michael (Beth) Kaniuk, and Melissa (Randy) Vander Woude; grandchildren, Brayden, Chase, and Logan Kaniuk, Madison and Ian Vander Woude, Sophia Kaniuk, and Alyssa and Ryan Peo; great grandson, Mateo Peo; sister, Pat (Lyle) Cooke; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joy Molasso.
A private family celebration of life will be held in remembrance of Kathleen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Agnes Day Services Center or the VNA Hospice of NWI.

My condolences to Kathy's family. I have so many fond memories of your entire family. I was with Kathy when she met Greg - Oh the fun we had. Once both of us had children Kathy and I would get together and let the kids run wild. Mike, Missy, Gregory and my David & Jessica. All you kids were so entertaining.
