Kathy Lou Herma, 76 of Kouts, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.  She was born on June 23, 1947 in South Bend, IN to Louis and Grace (Wilson) Tooper.  A 1965 graduate of Washington Clay High School in South Bend, Kathy worked as a nurse, in various office positions, market research, and at the Kouts Public Library.  She enjoyed bragging about her kids and grandkids, painting, playing bridge, and traveling.  Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother with a strong and fun loving personality.  She could often be found shaking her groove thang, enjoying a cocktail with Jake and her friends, or laughing until she peed her pants.  Some may have known her as Lou, Dr. Lou, Meemaw, Aunt Sathy, Mamacita, KathyHerma, or Grandma Jake.  She was a cool chick and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
On June 14, 1986, Kathy married the love of her life, Eugene (Jake) Herma. He survives her along with four children, Laura (Ben) Hecht, Tricia (Mike) Hill, Robyn (Ben “Taco”) Fidone, and Chuck Herma (and Holly); five grandchildren (Chloe, Samantha, Sierra, Willow, and Diego); 3 great grandchildren (Bubby, Minker, and MoonPie), and numerous nieces, nephews, and family members.  She enjoyed a full life of fun adventures with her family and with Jake and her friends at Big Long Lake, in Texas, and friends made along their journey together.  She was preceded in death by her parents (Grace (Goog) and Louis Tooper) and two sisters, Sandy Johnson and Donna (Jim) Potts.
In honoring Kathy Lou’s request, there will be no services with cremation to take place.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in her name.
