Larry J. Sausman, 84, of Michigan City, formerly of Valparaiso passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 7, 2023. He was born October 22, 1938, to Wilbert “Blackie” & Dorothy (Carl) Sausman and served proudly with the U.S. Marine Corps. Larry made his career with Ironworkers Local #395 for over 40 years. He was a member of F & AM Lodge #137, Orak Shrine and the Scottish Rite of South Bend. Always a man of strong opinions and dedication, Larry could be relied upon by his family, coworkers, and friends when they needed it most. Having joined the Marines at age 16 and choosing ironwork as his trade, there was no question of his industrious nature. His edgy persona served only to endear him to those nearby.
On April 12, 1969, he married Jeannine DeLy who preceded him in death in 2013. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Robert W.) Hoyle of Michigan City, sister, Janyce Sausman of Florida, his canine companion “Gus”, his beloved caregiver, Dawn Moss, and many loving nieces, nephews, colleagues & friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings: James Terry, Helen, Ruth, Bill & Thomas.
A visitation will be held Monday from 9 – 11 am at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 11:00 am and burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.

GUESTBOOK

My deepest sympathy goes to the entire Sausman Family. My experiences with Larry over the years was only through the Ironworker trade, but leaves me with many fond memories. I found Larry to be a proud, talented Ironworker who contributed greatly to an enjoyable and productive working environment, as were common traits among the many proud and talented Sausman ironworkers. I regret that I will not be able to pay my respects in person. -Douglas Sweeney
