Lynn Marie Medved, September 24, 1958 – December 13, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lynn Marie Medved, a devoted advocate, free thinker, and beloved member of the Miller Beach community in Gary, Indiana. Lynn was born on September 24, 1958, and grew up in Merrillville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen Matthew Medved; her parents, George and Anna Oros; and her son, Collin Jeffrey McAdams. Lynn’s legacy lives on through her cherished family: her daughter, Olivia Patrice Medved, and Olivia’s fiancé, Nicholas Ryan Ayala of Brooklyn; her son, Griffin Francis Medved; and her treasured granddaughter, Kaydence Elise McAdams.
Lynn earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Ashford University, reflecting her lifelong commitment to education and justice. She spent her career advocating for at-risk communities, most recently serving as a case manager at Aliveness Project. Lynn’s work was not just a profession but a true passion. She cared deeply for her clients, and her kindness and understanding touched countless lives. A loving mother, wife, and dog mom, Lynn brought warmth and creativity into all she did. She found joy in gardening, cooking, art, and painting, often expressing her boundless imagination through her creations. Antiquing was another of her great loves, reflecting her appreciation for stories, history, and beauty in the everyday. Lynn’s generosity of spirit, her unwavering kindness, and her deep love for her family and community will be profoundly missed. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and resilience.
A celebration of Lynn’s life will take place on Miller Beach in the summer of 2025. Family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the incredible impact she had on everyone who knew her. One of Lynn’s favorite poems, by Shel Silverstein, perfectly captures her enduring spirit:
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
to cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know,
The place where the sidewalk ends.
Lynn Marie Medved will forever be remembered for her gentle strength, her boundless love, and her commitment to making the world a better place.
