Marcia Tyrka, 80 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023. She was born July 13, 1943, in Johnstown, PA to the late Patrick Nairn and Ila (Berkebile) Hallowell. Marcia attended Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church in Portage, and worked for many years as a Nurse’s Aide at St. Margaret’s in Hammond on the dialysis unit. Marcia was a loving person, who was always taking care of others. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the penny slots at the Blue Chip Casino, and going to breakfast with her husband at Round the Clock and Leroy’s Hot Stuff. Marcia will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed.
On July 9, 1976, Marcia married David Tyrka, who survives, along with children: Robert (Toni) Collins of Demotte, IN, Douglas (Jeanmarie) Collins of Fredericksburg, VA, Julie Satmary of Port St. Lucie, FL, David “Tony” (Beth) Tyrka of South Haven, IN, and Jenica (Samah) Sutherland of Valparaiso, IN; 18 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Patrick Nairn, Carol Carlton, Lanny Nairn, and Judy Walworth; and a granddaughter, Jori.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. The funeral service will begin on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of NWI.
