Margaret Ann “Toots” (Hegyi) Auten, 89 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 5, 2025. She was born October 8, 1936 in Gary, Indiana to Joseph L. and Margaret M. (Schuler) Hegyi. Margaret was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School Class of 1954 and a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Valparaiso. Margaret was a loving wife and mother. She loved spending time with her family, going to her grandkids school and sporting events, all night poker with her cousins, watching the Cubs, playing Bingo and gambling at the casinos.
On October 15, 1955 in Gary, Margaret married Edward A. Auten who preceded her in death in 2017. Surviving are 5 children, Kathy (Ron) Raduski, Susan (Tim) Weaver, Carol Greer, Patricia Hamaker, and Ed (Jen) Auten; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one on the way; and sisters, Janet Springman and Judy Troxel. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Sue Auten; and brother, Joseph Hegyi.
Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to VNA Hospice of NWI.
