Margie Christine “Chris” Place of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Morgan Hill, CA & Angola, IN, passed away on May 12, 2025. Born in Kewanna, IN in 1933 to Virgil A. & Helen V Sims. She was the owner of Campus Corners Restaurant in Angola, IN for 10 years. Chris with her co-owner and sister, Carol and third sister, Karmen made the Campus Corners a welcoming place for all students and employed many, including her future husband, Jim, as a dishwasher. They included many foreign students who could not go home for the holidays in their holiday gatherings. Chris was known for her keen eye for decorating and her insistence that every plate for any occasion must be perfect.
Chris is survived by her husband, James and son Jerry, daughter Connie, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Susanna, Carol, Geraldine and Karmen and brother Steven.
Cremation will take place at Angelcrest Crematory and family will be gathering privately to remember Chris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local humane society or Disabled American Veterans.
