Maria Gloria Martinez, 73 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was born November 23, 1949, in Los Fresnos, TX to Isidro and Maria Petra (Zuniga) Ramirez. Gloria made her career as a Medical Assistant in Taylor, MI for many years before her retirement. She was a lifelong Catholic, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Gloria was happiest when the whole family was together, and looked forward to vacations with the family and trips to Texas. She also found great enjoyment in thrift store shopping and going to garage sales. Gloria will be remembered as a natural caregiver who always put the needs of others before her own. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
On June 4, 1969, in Texas, Gloria married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Marcelino Martinez, who survives, along with their daughters: Sandra (Troy) Martinez-Turner of Valparaiso, IN and Christina Martinez of Trenton, MI; grandsons: Michael “Mikey” Evans and Thomas “Tommy” (Cortney) Young; siblings: Isidro Ramirez Jr., Reynaldo Ramirez, Rodolfo Ramirez, Rosalinda Lopez, and Roberto Ramirez; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Ruben Ramirez and Raquel Ramirez.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN, with a memorial service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Click here to watch the recorded memorial service. Memorial donations may be made in Gloria’s name to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Avenue, Valparaiso, IN 46383. A celebration of Gloria’s life will be planned for a later date in Texas.
