Marie A. Schryner, 79 of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023. She was born September 21, 1943, in Chicago, IL to the late Thomas and Alice (Anderson) O’Connor. Marie graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Chicago in 1961. She later made her career as a Cashier for 38 years, most recenlty with the Strack & Van Til in Valparaiso, formerly Costas and Wise Way. Marie was a lifelong, devout Catholic, who attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in South Haven for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, watching the History Channel, Bones, and tv shows about the paranormal. Marie was a caring and selfless woman who always thought of others before herself. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
On May 9, 1964, in Roseland, IL, Marie married James Schryner, who preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by their sons: Lawrence (Prisca Moron) Schryner, Scott (Kelley) Schryner, Terry (Betsy) Schryner, all of Valparaiso; grandchildren: Kaci Schryner, Dustin (Sabrina) Schryner, Cole (Madison Sisson) Schryner; step-grandchildren: Shane Evans and Kiley (Brandon) Bookout; great-grandchildren: Koda, Jade, Josephine, Braylee, and Beckett; and brother, James (Karen) O’Connor.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial of ashes will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Dunes Hospice.
