Martha H. Smith, 97 of Boca Raton, FL, and recently residing in Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024. She was born on October 15, 1926 in Harlan, KY to Jessie and Nola (Reeves) Disney and attended Hammond Tech to obtain her GED. Besides her devotion to raising her family, Martha worked at National Tea in Whiting, IN and eventually Publix Super Market in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where she retired after 23 years. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling, specifically to her homes in Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She had a generous and giving heart, some of which could be seen in her supporting St. Jude’s and the American Red Cross. If you knew Martha, you knew a strong-willed, independent, woman who was never shy about saying what was on her mind. Over the last 18 months, Martha got to live closer to her family and thoroughly enjoyed spending birthdays and holidays with them making lasting memories. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Martha is survived by her children, Dennis (Barbara) Smith and Debra Lang; grandchildren: Dennis (Heather) Smith, David (Liz) Smith, and Donna (Chad) Taylor; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dwayne Anthony Smith, and 4 siblings.
Per Martha’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice.
