Martha Smith, 85 of Wanatah, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023. She was born December 20, 1938, in Clay County, KY to the late Thomas and Luella (Gray) Lipps. Martha made her career with Federal Mogul for almost 30 years, working in several different divisions, including shipping and receiving, sandblasting, and forklift operating, which she personalized to the fullest. She had also been a member of Old Pathway Baptist Church in Porter. Martha enjoyed watching University of Kentucky basketball and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Bulls. She always looked forward to spending as much time as she could with her family, and hosting the holidays and birthday parties at her home. Martha will be remembered for her sweet disposition and caring heart. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed.
On December 14, 1963, she married Randolph “Bud” Smith, who preceded her in death in 2021. She is survived by children: Buril (Kim) Smith and Audrey Hines, all of LaPorte; grandchildren: Krystyn, Jessica, Payge, Joshua, Dalton; great-grandchildren: Carter, Conner, and Zayne; and brother, Estill Lipps. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
