Mary E. Hazlett, 92, of Noblesville, IN formerly of Valparaiso passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025. She was born December 9, 1932, in Hebron, IN to Jay & Hildreth (Summers) Buchanan and graduated from Hebron High School in 1950.  Over the last 53 years, Mary was a faithful member of the Valparaiso and the Noblesville First United Methodist Churches.

On April 6, 1952, she married Charles Hazlett who preceded her in death in 2016. Survivors include their children: Charles (Patricia) Hazlett of Carolina Shores, NC, Phillip (Kim) Hazlett of Columbia, SC, Michele (Todd) Reel of Noblesville & Ames (Connie) Hazlett of Valparaiso, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Brian (Holly) Abrams.

Mary’s legacy shines through her lifelong dedication to the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter DT of Valparaiso, Indiana. As a founding member, she held numerous leadership roles—including President—where she championed educational opportunities for women and inspired those around her with her unwavering commitment. Upon moving to Noblesville, Mary continued her service by transferring her membership to Chapter DT of Carmel, Indiana, where her warmth and gracious spirit were cherished by all. Her welcoming smile and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met, making her not only a respected leader but also a beloved friend and mentor. Mary’s devotion to empowering women and fostering community will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.

A visitation will be held Friday, January 16th from 9:30 – 11 am at Valparaiso First United Methodist Church, 103 n. Franklin St. with memorial service beginning at 11:00 am, Rev. Jared Kendall and Rev. Bob Coolman officiating.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at Noblesville First United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 18th at 2 pm, Rev. Nicole Caldwell-Gross, officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter DT, 150 Harrowgate Drive Carmel, IN 46033 so support education opportunities for women.
