Mary Kay Bates, 66, passed away on Friday, May 17 2024, with her beloved husband, Steve, holding her hand. Mary was born to Robert and Katharine Mortensen on February 22,1958 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. She graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1976 and received a medical receptionist certificate from Baker College in 2006.
Mary was a devoted mother to her daughter, Elizabeth, and a loving wife to her husband, Steve. She also loved her pets and her home where she and Steve hosted many happy family gatherings. Mary also found great joy in singing at church with her father accompanying her on the saxophone.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Steve; her daughter, Elizabeth; brother, Mike; and sisters, Tina and Pamela, along with many cousins. A memorial service will be held at Deer Lake Cemetery, Reed City, MI at a future date.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Brickyard Nursing Home and Dunes Hospice, Valparaiso, IN who so thoughtfully cared for our dear wife and sister. You were amazing.
