Mary Sue Hollander, 80 of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023. She was born January 2, 1943, in Logan, West Virginia to the late David and Beatrice (McDonald) Vernatter. Mary graduated from Logan Senior High School, and went on to have a career in home healthcare as a Companion for over 25 years with Companion Care. She was a member of the Valparaiso Nazarene Church and a faithful Christian. Mary enjoyed antiques, and spending time with her beloved family, especially her great-grandchildren. Mary’s family was always her priority in life. She had a caring personality, a heart of gold, and a fun sense of humor. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
On June 29, 1968, in Crown Point, Indiana, Mary married the love of her life, Bobby R. Hollander, who preceded her in death in 2020. She is survived by their daughter, Tina McAbee; son-in-law, Jessie Lopez; grandchildren: David Hollander, Kaylin (William) Asbell, and Jessica (Gerardo Flores) Lopez; great-grandchildren: Chanel, Amaria, David Jr., William Jr., and Nevaeh; siblings: Nina Sutphin, Linda Vernatter, and Ted (Ruth) Vernatter; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen “Na-Na” Lopez; grandson, Billy Hollander; and brother, William Douglas Vernatter.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN, with a funeral service beginning at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family or to Moeller Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
